We need a united front to defeat Ken Sim and his billionaire backers. In the interests of left unity and to maximize the potential for electing a representative of renters and working class people in Vancouver, Vote Socialist will not be nominating its own candidate in this year’s municipal by-election.

On Wednesday I went down to witness the illegal decampment on East Hastings street and stand in solidarity with community advocates.  A few hours later I was thrown to the ground as the VPD started pushing the crowd back. I saw the police use traffic barriers and bicycles to slam into people, including an Indigenous elder in a wheelchair. I saw them smash a ceremonial smudge plate to the ground, which is most likely a hate crime. I saw city workers throwing peoples belongings in the trash while destroying their homes. All the while legal observers begged them to stand down. 

With schools reopening in one week, VOTE Socialist School Board candidate Dr. Karina Zeidler is calling for urgent investments in clean air and safe schools for students and education workers.

B.C.’s most notorious billionaire is trying to covertly buy this year’s municipal elections. And he would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for some solid journalism by Dan Fumano in the Vancouver Sun.

The City’s newest political party, VOTE Socialist, will announce its candidates for the upcoming municipal election this Sunday near Jericho Beach, on city land that has long been a flashpoint in the struggle to add social and public housing to the west side of Vancouver.
