CITY OF VANCOUVER BY-ELECTION

A by-election is scheduled in Vancouver to fill a city council seat vacated by Christine Boyle, who was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Vancouver-Little Mountain in the provincial election on October 19, 2024. Boyle announced her intention to resign from the city council in December 2024, following a period of unpaid leave.

According to the Vancouver Charter, once a council member resigns, the city must appoint a Chief Election Officer, who is then required to set a by-election date within 80 days of their appointment.
